What is in a name?

What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet.

"And let me make a final point. For a while now, the main contribution of some of my friends on the other side of the aisle have made in the fight against ISIL is to criticize this administration and me for not using the phrase "radical Islam." That's the key, they tell us. We can't beat ISIL unless we call them radical Islamists.

What exactly would using this label would accomplish? What exactly would it change? Would it make ISIL less committed to trying to kill Americans? Would it bring in more allies? Is there a military strategy that is served by this?

The answer, is none of the above. Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away. This is a political distraction."

Is it "AL QUEDA"?   Is it "HAMAS?"  Is it "ISIS?"  Is it "WORKPLACE VIOLENCE?"  Was it the spontaneous result of a YouTube video that just happened to appear randomly on the anniversary of 9/11?  Is it "ISIL?"  No....it's "DASH"....oh wait...that didn't stick....so now its "ISIS" again...oh wait...lets go back "ISIL" and try that again...no...seems like were gonna try "ISIS"  again...but now we have to call them "DASH".  Yeah lets try "DASH" again...no...maybe the term "ISIS" is better ..."ISIS"...but I think now were back to "ISIL"...Is it "AL QUEDA"? Is it "HAMAS?"  Is it "ISIS?"  Is it "WORKPLACE VIOLENCE?"  Was it the spontaneous result of a YouTube video that just happened to appear randomly on the anniversary of 9/11?  Is it "ISIL?"  No....it's "DASH"....oh wait...that didn't stick....so now its "ISIS" again...oh wait...lets go back "ISIL" and try that again...no...seems like were gonna try "ISIS"  again...but now we have to call them "DASH".  Yeah lets try "DASH" again...no...maybe the term "ISIS" is better ..."ISIS"...but I think now were back to "ISIL"...

WHO ARE WE FIGHTING?  CAN A FIGHT BE WON IF THE FIGHTER CANT EVEN TELL YOU WHO HE IS FIGHTING???

Who killed those 49 people in Orlando?  Who killed 3.000 people on 9/11?  Who killed all those people in Paris...and London...and Brussels...and so on and so on and so on so on and so on and so on and so on and so on and so on. It really amazes me that President Obama spends so much time on linguistics.  He criticizes people who use the term 'radical Islam'.  Well...WTF is it?  Yeah...sure...if he was still a Law Professor and hanging around his liberal circles that's cool to talk about linguistic labels and their philosophical outcomes that result from there use.

But he is also the leader of the military and he should realize a simple fundamental.  You cant beat an enemy if you cant name and define them.  I will say though that Mr. Obama actually said 'MUS-LIM' in his speech instead of going out of his way to make sure that he said "MOOS-LIM".   Maybe this is a step in the right direction.  Maybe in his next speech he'll say 'Pack-I-stan' and not 'PAQQQ-EYE-STAN".
